We had such a great Memorial Weekend!!!
Saturday was our first day with our new car and driver...it really is a necessity here....hehehe! :D And so... we decided to take our first scenic trip of Manila. Mile wise the trip looked like about a 2 hour drive, but with traffic it took us 3 1/2 hours to get to the Province of Tagaytay.
Tagaytay has the second highest peak located in the Peoples Park in the Sky. At the top you can see an awesome view of Metro Manila on one side and the world's smallest volcano, the Taal, on the other. The legend is that when the volcano first erupted a spring opened and formed a lake around it. The Taal volcano is completely surrounded by fresh spring water. It is beautiful and it was nice to get into some fresher, cleaner air!
Today, Memorial Day, we went to the Manila American Cemetery. Over 17 thousand military men are buried there. The grounds are amazing and so well taken care of. We walked through the humongous travertine monument looking at all of the men's names carved there whose bodies were not recovered. We found such an appreciation for the military and what they do to defend our country and also a little sadness for the number of headstones.....it is wonderful to look at, but hard to put the idea out of your head what the headstones represent.
This was such an awesome weekend! I am really grateful for America and the freedoms and opportunities we have!
